Thank A Chicken: The farm you save may be your own ... The Maryland Soybean Board is the proud lead partner of the Thank A Chicken effort, which is working to increase awareness of and appreciation for the poultry industry's contributions to the Delmarva economy, environment, and quality of life. "Thank A Chicken" is the name of the campaign and website being promoted by the Maryland Soybean Board this summer with a grant from the United Soybean Board. Also working on the effort is the Delaware Soybean Board, Delmarva Poultry Industry, Inc., Maryland Grain Producers Association; Maryland Ag Education Foundation, and others. Collectively, the group is known as "MAAA" (Maryland Agricultural Awareness Alliance) -- a group started under the auspices of the grain producers years ago. Nationally, more than 94 percent of domestic soybean meal is consumed by animal agriculture. This makes it an extremely important market for U.S. soybean farmers. Rural neighbors and tourists passing through Delmarva on their way to beach resorts will see billboards and ads aimed at reminding them of the value of the soybean, grain and animal ag industries. There is even a two-page spread in the Bay Game this year -- giving every kid who crosses the Bay Bridge a chance to learn more. Special event promotions like the Delmarva Chicken Festival in June, the Shorebirds' Perdue Stadium Ag Day in July, and the Delaware State Fair in late July, are all working to get people's attention focused on the poultry industry's benefits to our region.
