FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
The Maryland Soybean Board is seeking research proposals designed to address the needs of the state’s soybean farmers and strengthen the productivity and profitability of Maryland’s soybean industry.
Researchers are encouraged to propose projects with the potential to make a meaningful impact on soybean production in Maryland. While the Board maintains a list of identified research priorities on its website, submissions are not limited to those areas.
“Research supported by the Maryland Soybean Board should provide practical value to our farmers and help them respond to the challenges they face and create new opportunities in their fields,” said Shane King, Chair of the Maryland Soybean Board Research Committee. “We encourage researchers to bring forward innovative ideas that can improve soybean production, profitability and long-term sustainability in Maryland.”
Researchers seeking funding for a new project must submit a brief pre-proposal through the Board’s project management platform at projects.mdsoy.com by October 15, 2026. The pre-proposal should provide a two- to three-sentence overview of the research concept for consideration by the Board’s Research Committee. Researchers whose concepts are selected for further consideration will be invited to submit a full proposal by December 15, 2026.
Researchers requesting continued funding for an existing project are not required to submit a pre-proposal but must submit a full proposal by the December 15 deadline. The Board may support multi-year research; however, funding is awarded one year at a time, and projects must be reviewed annually for continued support.
Researchers will be invited to present their proposals and project reports to the Maryland Soybean Board Research Committee in February. Funding decisions are expected to be announced in March.
Complete research guidelines, funding policies and the Board’s research priorities are available at www.mdsoy.com.
About the Maryland Soybean Board
Funding for these projects is provided by the Maryland Soybean Board through the soybean checkoff, with funding decisions made by its farmer-led Board of Directors. The Maryland Soybean Board works to maximize the profitability of Maryland soybean producers by investing checkoff funds in research, marketing and education. Established nationally in 1991, the soybean checkoff is directed by the United Soybean Board, while the Maryland Soybean Board administers the program within the state. Its Board of Directors includes 10 soybean farmers representing all growing regions of Maryland, each appointed to a three-year term, along with ex-officio members representing agribusiness, the Maryland Department of Agriculture and the University of Maryland.
